Dr. Denfeld is the current Next Generation Research Director for the BIRCWH K12 Program. She is a former BIRCWH Scholar (2017-2020).

Dr. Denfeld trained in Dr. Beth Habecker’s Lab for her post-doctoral fellowship and continues to work with her and her team on research projects.

Dr. Denfeld has a joint appointment in School of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Knight Cardiovascular Institute and works closely with several members of the KCVI. She also completed her post-doctoral fellowship in the KCVI.

Dr. Denfeld has been a member of the AHA since 2012. She was the Chair of the Cardiovascular Diseases in Older Populations Committee from 2022-2025). She has contributed to multiple AHA Scientific Sessions including one on falls in CVD and one on symptom science in CVD. She has also won numerous awards through the AHA: 2020 Martha Hill New Investigator Award Finalist, 2023 Marie Cowan Promising Early Career Investigator Award, and 2025 Mathy Mezey Excellence in Aging Award.

Dr. Denfeld is a member of the HFSA and has served on multiple committees within the HFSA, including the Nursing Committee, the Early Career Committee, and the Research Committee. She is currently a Co-Chair for the 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting in Phoenix, AZ. She was awarded the 2024 HFSA Nursing Research Leadership Award.

Dr. Denfeld has worked with the ISHLT on multiple initiatives. She led the 2024 consensus statement on Assessing and Managing Frailty in Advanced Heart Failure with fellow project co-leads Drs. Sunita Jha, JoAnn Lindenfeld, and Peter Macdonald. She led the 2024 consensus statement on Assessing and Managing Frailty in Advanced Heart Failure.

Dr. Denfeld has worked with the AAHFN on key initiatives such as participating in an Education Webinar and serving as a writing group member on a scientific statement on cardiac cachexia.

Dr. Denfeld is an Associate Editor and the Methods Section Editor (along with Prof. Caleb Ferguson) at the EJCN. You can read some of her published Methods Section papers on survival analysis, collecting reproductive history in CVD, and incorporating biomarkers in cardiovascular research: Part 1 and Part 2. An overview of the Methods Corner is described in an editorial in early 2025.

Dr. Denfeld is an editorial board member of JCN. She has published many articles in JCN. Of special note, her very first publication (as a nurse in the Cardiac and Surgical ICU) was published in JCN (read more here).

Dr. Denfeld is the Section Editor of Frailty and Nutrition at JCF. She has published a number of articles and editorials in JCF.
